I am startled.
Maybe because I picture God as a tranquil part of a perennial Sabbath,
The Sabbath is but one in seven days: the same God moves mountains, divides waters, and works on dusty creations.
And whenever He sees me ready to receive His help, even on the Sabbath, My Father worketh, and I work.

The "work" of God is the sum of all work done by all those who serve him. Christ did the work of the Father and so the Father's capacity for work was, in this case doubled. We are also commanded to do the work of the Father, and by so doing contribute our small part. His works and his words never end, in part, because they are written, repeated, taught and understood over and over again by millions of his children. This is his work--that his children may finish His work and so become like him in every way.
