Mood Swing

The novice penitent tours polar extremes: from “I am no devil, for there is none” to “command the mountains to fall upon me; hide me from God’s presence.” 

But quintessential repentance is not a wild mood swing. Can the soul fully grope that previously found safe pasture? Novice spirituality and experienced spirituality are different: fatalism’s attraction flickers while sturdy commitment compounds value.
